Maria Oiva (she/her)

Maria is a performance artist and theatre director with extensive experience in the national and international field. She works both institutional and independent sectors.

 

Since 2015 she has worked with concepts of digital stages and more widely with a role of technology in a live performances. She is a founding member of #digiteatteri, earning recognition with the TINFO-award in 2019.

Maria´s works are often discussing about power relations and themes around sexuality and gender. Relationships where power is exercised, different socio-political and personal power structures, manifestations and limits are addressed in diverse ways in her work.

​

She has a strong and long background working with new forms of performative concepts re-thinking spectatorship and the concept of the stage and performances focusing on the embodied experiences of the spectator are in the core of her work.  Art collective, Reality Research Center,  committed to question the nature of reality, has been her artistic base for this work. She works also with a new drama area and on the audiovisual spectrum.

She has worked f.ex in Finnish National theatre, Riihimäki theatre and Koko theatre and her works has been presented in main festivals in Finland.

​

Maria also works as a consultant and as an educator f.ex. in Ministry of Education and Culture and Theatre Union and a visiting lecturer f.ex. in Department of Film, Television and Scenography/ Aalto University and Theatre Academy /University of the Arts in Helsinki.
